I sit there above, watching the scene down below dejectedly. All the glowing faces smiling up at me.
Every year, the same thing happens. I get placed on top of a cut down, once beautiful tree. That I can just imagine standing tall and proud in a dense forest, with branches dancing in the slight breezes and the snow fluttering all around.
Tthen after a month or so they take me down and stuff me in a dark, confined box for a boring eleven more month. Depressed, I dont do anything but think.
They take me out once its that 'special' time of the year. But I dont see what is so special about it... I watch all the excitment on the families faces, and puzzle over it for that lonely period of time by myself. When they take me out i watch my 'family' drag the tree in. Still fresh with the glittering snow that sparkles in the sun from outside. I see the people exchanging gifts with happiness radiating from their very beings, and wonder.
The people exchange gift after gift after gift, looking pleased with themselves when handing over a present, then exstatic when they open the anonymous box. Then, after 6 yrs of endless wonder and being puzzled, realization finally dawns on me... Christmas is about the giving. With this knew found knowledge, and finally understanding the meaning of Christmas, I let that statement go racing through my mind and I shine brighter then I ever have before, and light up the room. Sharing the same feelings they feel, and maybe even more. So hopefully it was my people's best christmas, just as it was mine.

The wedding cake in the middle of the road.
One still and silent night a boy by the name of Mitchell and at the age of fifteen was slowly walking down a lonely street. He had just been over at a friend's house and was walking home. Suddenly he looked up with his bright blue eyes that could light up the world and saw a strange silhouette in the distance. He walked faster, curious to find out what it was. His short dirty blond hair swayed slightly as his pace got faster. As he was walking, the breeze suddenly got a slight more chillier. A shiver raced through his spine. Mitchell could feel winter coming in, for in the beautiful area of the kootnies your are tucked inbetween the crevices in the towering mountains so the winters are cold, with the glittering snow deep. Mitchell walked and walked and finally came across a wedding cake in the middle of the road. Not wanting to have to even think of how it got there he said a wizard must have conjured this elaboratly decorated cake in the knowledge that he was very very hungry,

The first thing I remember is waking up and seeing a bright light pouring down onto my face. I couldnt see anything else, for the light was blinding me. I sat up quickly while image and image flowed through my mind in a blur. There had been a terribly tingling sensation flowing through my stunned body. When a person pointed a laser looking type gun at me. But the person... she had said something to me... something no one would believe. '' I am not from your world. I live on another planet at the other end of the galaxy.'' she said. She talked slowly and i couldnt wrap my mind around the fact that this... person, alien? was soemthing the scientists have been working on for a long while; and yet no shred of evidence; no detailed search project had been able to prove that creatures from another planet could exist. What was I supposed to do?? She had found me in my house, just relaxing on my couch watching the pointless box filled with electrical wires and such that people waste their time watching all day. It scared the crap outta me when she knew everything about me. Told me everything I was thinking and everything that I would think. My first thought was the FBI. But she wouldnt take any of that. She started going on about how her parents had been imprisoned because of their beliefs and experimenting but without actually proving their theories. She had been traveling in the big confinements of her shuttle for a week trying to find me, of all people... ME!!! That was when she pointed the gun at me. I seriously thought she was going to murder me. But she told me that all she wanted was to scan me and place something I might find useful inside of me and explained that what she wanted was my genetic information and to prove that by playing with a human's gentic info you could change around their molecules and give them speical abilties. Without another word she put pressure onto the trigger and a blue light sped from the end of the gun, she ran it up and down my body giving me that tingling sensation... then everything was black. Thats when I woke up. I could hear the thoughts of people around me. From what i could tell i was in a hospital. machines were buzzing and people were whispering. Once i sat up away from the bright light i could see better and although there was about ten people beside my bed not one of them was moving their mouths... but then where was the whispering coming from??? Mind reading! thats what the alien girl must have meant when she said special abilites!!! No one believed me at first, but then i started relaying to them their thoughts and they became more and more skeptical of what was coming out of their mouths. The End

hockey
I hear the cheering in the stands. We walk through the doors into the bright lights, and chilly air. Excited and puck hungry we run onto the ice, and start our pre game warm up. Feeling the rush of cold air hit me like an icy wind. Hearing the crisp air whip past my ears. Sensing the other team pursuing me for the puck thats caught on my stick.
Heart pulsing, I watch my teammates from the bench. Shes on a breakaway, the defence on the opposing team stumble and try to catch up to her. Looking directly into the goalie's challenging eyes shes handles the puck and snap shoots it from the ringette line right into the top right blocker corner of the goalie's turf. The other team hang their heads and skate slowly over to their goalie to tell her not to get frustrated, whilst we congratulate eachother with back pats and a five player group hug.
The first period is over. Now we are entering the second period. Will the other team step it up a notch or will we keep them in check, where they are supposed to be? We play hard as a team. We all know that there is no such thing as "I" in team. We keep pushing and we win the second period, with the score still as 1-0.
Last period. The most intense period of the game. I can feel my skates cutting into the ice beneath me. I skate to where the puck is and pass it to the player thats open. She gets past the defence, walks into their zone, shoots, and gets right into the five hole.
We win the game. Cheering in a happy mass, we go congratlate our goalie on her shut out.
This is the game of hockey.
